Illuminations

I have always been fascinated by jellyfish and wanted to capture their beauty in a series of paintings. I researched more in depth and found artists such as Michelle Kurlan who captured marine life in a simple form. Finding a primary source was difficult as jellyfish are hard to photograph on a daily basis; so, I created my own jellyfish out of man-made materials such as newspaper, silk and plastic bags. I followed with a photo shoot and clever editing to make the jellys come alive. My final task was to paint from these images. Done in oil paint on board.
