Puppet Project 'Mythical Creatures'

Our very first project was to create a mythical creature puppet. During the summer, I visited Kenya so my inspiration was African mythology. One of the myths I came across was of the 'Tokoloshe'; a small, gremlin-like creature said to terrorise school children. I designed my own interpretation of the creature and created a plush puppet out of hand-batik cotton. I hand painted his features in acrylic and added earrings for a more tribal effect. I dyed the material with tea and coffee after passing many plantations in Kenya and also chose batik as it's a traditional Kenyan technique.
